I like to think that I am pretty up-to-date when it comes to the simple things in life, but I had no idea that the trash trucks did this.

I had a conversation with a friend who works for a waste disposal company, and I mentioned that I thought it was hard work for a garbage collector. My friend said "it's not the easiest job, but with the automatic lift arm, it's not as hard as it was once".

Automatic lift arm?

When I was a kid, I remember seeing the sanitation workers having to lift the cans to empty them into the truck.  I vaguely remember "new" technology: an arm coming from the side of the truck to grab around the can and lift it, but I thought that those truck were causing too much of a mess and their use was discontinued. I didn't know that another "new" method had been developed!

Sure enough! I shot the video while I was hiding in my driveway on trash pick-up day.

Why did I hide in my driveway to shoot this video? That's a good question.  It's kind of creepy, now that I think about it.

Now that I know this about the trash trucks, am I up-to-date on the latest technology?
