Earlier today, I did a story giving you a heads up about fake weather forecasts floating around social media. Right on cue, this afternoon I see a Facebook post saying Hurricane Irma will be a category 6 hurricane. I thought a cat 5 was the strongest measure of a hurricane. Did I miss something?

No, for once, I didn't miss a thing and neither did you. Once again, fake weather news is flying around around social media saying that Hurricane Irma will become a category 6. That's not going to happen. It's impossible for that to happen.

The super credible, integrity packed website dcclothesline.com has actually, very dangerously posted a story with the headline "Category 6? If Hurricane Irma Becomes The Strongest Hurricane In History, It Could Wipe Entire Cities Off The Map".

In the story, they go on to say that category 5 is the strongest level we currently have for hurricanes, but that with Irma and more storms like her, we may need to add category 6 to the measuring scale.

Doesn't matter what they say in the article, because all anyone is going to see is the headline and go into a panic. Then, they will post to Facebook and 45,000 people will share it. Precisely why they wrote such an irresponsible headline.

Ridiculous fear mongering and to be blunt, it really pisses me off.

Be careful about the news you see on social media, please. Right now there are quite a few fake weather forecasts and news stories about Hurricane Irma.
