(KTDY) - A mother is warning others about a dangerous social media challenge that sent her daughter to the hospital.
In recent years, several "trends" or "challenges" have surfaced on various social media platforms, putting teens in danger. Now, another trend has emerged, involving kids taking a popular over-the-counter allergy medicine.
The mother explains that her daughter was rushed to the hospital after her heart rate spiked and she began to hallucinate. As the mom investigated what could have caused this, she found Benadryl pills in her daughter's bed.
When the mother and her daughter arrived at the hospital, the teen told doctors what she had taken, and they ruled out a suicide attempt.
Once the mom continued to go through her daughter's phone, she would see several videos that her daughter had on social media, and they centered around her taking a lot of Benadryl in an attempt to "get high."
The mother of the teen who was sent to the hospital for taking the medication is sharing her story now so that other parents are aware of what is going around on social media platforms like TikTok.
