Much of Louisiana is preparing for a hurricane and if you own or rent a home there are several things you need to do before the storm's landfall.

Sure, we often think about picking things up in the yard that can harm our property or a neighbor's property, but have you ever thought about your garage door?

If you have a garage door there are a few things you can do to protect it during a hurricane and the most important may be to brace something up against the door, from inside the garage.

You should also unplug it and use the locks on the door to protect it from wind damage.

I have also heard of people parking a vehicle parallel to the door outside the garage to act as a buffer. The vehicle could limit the pressure applied to the door during high winds.

Some have built contraptions to brace the door with wood, while some suggest just backing your vehicle up as close to the door as possible. Whateevr you wish to do, you should consider finding a way to protect the garage door at your home, they aren't cheap to replace.
