Extreme Temperatures in Louisiana Cook Hot Dogs Left Out in Sun
(Lafayette, Louisiana) - Temperatures are soaring across Louisiana this summer, but are the temperatures high enough to cook something that is left outdoors?
While the kids enjoy the last few days of summer vacation, we've been fishing in the pond in our backyard, and we've recently discovered what the fish want on the end of the hook.
After not having much success with worms and artificial bait, we decided to pull off an old trick, using pieces of hot dogs or weiners on the hook. Well, wouldn't you know, it works.
Yes, the fish in our pond apparently have an appetite for weiners, and once others in the neighborhood got word of our success, they showed up with their weiners.
Well, we had enough already open to share with others, so some of our neighbors started to use the weiners we had until it was time to retreat indoors.
My wife noticed that one of the kids left their weiners on the ground, so she picked them up, placed them on a paper plate, and put them on the swing, intending to bring them in that night.
Well, she left them on the swing that night, and while out in the yard the following morning, she went to dispose of them, but noticed that ants were having a feast. Thus, she left them on the swing because she didn't want to get bitten.
Fast forward several hours to Tuesday, July 29, and temperatures soared, with highs approaching 100 degrees. Well, I returned home after work and decided to take the puppy out in the backyard, and I noticed a plate on the swing.
As I approached it, I didn't know what was left out, and then it hit me, it was the weiners from the night before. However, the weiners did not look anything like they did the day before.

The raw weiners that were out all day actually COOKED on the plate due to the temperatures in Lafayette on July 29. This unintended experiment in our backyard confirmed that it is dangerously hot in Acadainaa this summer.
Take a look at the weiners that cooked while out on the swing, and no, we did not eat them.
