(KLFY) Five people were injured at a hookah lounge in a late-night shooting on Main Street in St. Martinville, La. last night. St. Martinville Police Chief Rickey Martin said officers were called out about 11 pm Saturday evening over an incident that allegedly started after someone stepped on another person's shoe.

When police arrived at the hookah lounge, five people were suffering from non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. Two individuals are believed to be from Carencro, the other three from St. Martinville.

Martin said the incident allegedly started when an individual stepped on a person's tennis shoe. An argument ensued and the heated exchange then led to gunshots.

The lounge may have not been properly licensed to open under current COVID guidelines. Martin's office will investigate early next week.
