On a recent outing to Austin, Texas, I must say that it was quite a relief to walk into a nightclub and not be overpowered by cigarette smoke.  I did a little research online, and it seems that Austin residents voted in a smoking ban in most public establishments back in 2005 or so, and there is a push to get a state-wide smoking bill passed in Texas (it failed in 2007).

It has been my choice for a while now to limit my visits to 'smoke-friendly' environments.  When I was younger, I used to love to visit with friends at the 'bar', but as I aged, and my asthma progressed, I had to avoid them.

Which is music to the ears of people like Chubby Carrier and David Egan, who have been the local 'faces' of Let's Be Totally Clear, a statewide tobacco control program funded by a Louisiana state excise tax on tobacco passed in 2002.  From the Let's Be Totally Clear Facebook page:  "Let’s Be Totally Clear is a smoke-free air movement in Louisiana. Our goal is to help those who remain unprotected in the workplace get the healthier, smoke-free air they deserve . It will take all of us working together to ensure that bar employees (bartenders, cocktail waitresses, bar backs, bouncers), musicians, casino employees, DJs and entertainers deserve the same protection that the rest of us enjoy in our workplaces, and no longer have to put their health at risk for a paycheck."

Correct me if I am wrong, but Scandal's was the first nightclub in Lafayette to go smoke-free.  Now Grant Street.  Is two a trend?
