Girl’s Dad Dies and Officer Takes Her to Daddy-Daughter Dance

Imagine an 8-year-old girl. Now imagine her father dying during the holidays. Now imagine what goes through her mind when her school hosts a Father-Daughter Dance. That’s exactly what a gentleman did and then he stepped up to the plate.

A Van Buren School District second-grader, Avey Cox, from Arkansas had a great time at the Father-Daughter Dance when the resource officer at her school, Cpl. Nick Harvey, stepped in for her dad and took her to the dance.

After the death of her father during the holidays, Avey thought she wouldn’t be able to go to the dance. Harvey’s chief suggested the officers volunteer to escort any students that didn’t have dads. Harvey immediately decided to escort his friend, Avey.

He talked to Avey’s mother first. Then, Avey’s mom talked to her about it the following day. Obviously, Avey told her mom she would like it to happen because the next day Harvey formally asked Avey if she would be his date to the Daddy-Daughter dance. She said yes.

Nick Harvey’s Facebook post is so heartwarming. To see the photos he posted and read how he considered it an honor to escort this beautiful and amazing little girl. He also says in his post that they had so much fun dancing and acting goofy.

As you can see, they coordinated their outfits and took a lot of photos. They rode in a limousine and went to get pizza before the dance. After the dance, a group went out for ice cream.

"It meant a lot because I actually got to go and see all my friends there, and then, I got to go with him and have a lot of fun," Avey

Nick Harvey said he hopes he can take Avey to the Father-Daughter Dance every year.
