Five Most Germ Infested Items in Louisiana Homes
(KTDY) - Many here in Acadiana have started their "Spring Cleaning" or soon will, but do you know which items in your home are most infected with germs and viruses?
A few days ago, we started "Spring Cleaning" in our house, and while we were wiping down the baseboards, doors, and floors, I looked up which items in homes contain the most germs, and I was shocked.
So, I thought I'd highlight what I found so you can make sure you clean these things in your home as you begin your annual cleaning. According to Healthline, these five spots in your home contain the most germs.
Let's start with the dishcloth and sponges by your kitchen sink. You wipe down the cabinets, sink, and dishes with these and often forget to wash them after each use. Well, they are filthy.
You should be washing them after each use if you want to make sure that you're using a 'clean" cloth ot sponge each time.
Another item in your house that is polluted with germs is the kitchen sink and drain. Because it often stays wet, this is a prime location for bacteria like E. coli to thrive. You should make it a habit in your home to clean your sink and drain with a disinfectant a few times a week.
Next, we'll stay close to the sinks in your home when it comes to places filthy with germs. The bathroom faucet and toothbrush holders are contaminated because they are often the first things you touch after you use the bathroom.
Again, you should be wiping these down with a disinfectant weekly.
And there's your coffee pot in the kitchen. While the glass container itself may not be covered in germs, the reservoir is, and that's because of the moisture iit maintains.
A habit I got into after using the coffee pot in our house is washing the reservoir, letting it sit out until it is completely dry, and then putting it back in the coffee pot. This can hinder bacterial growth on it.
Lastly, the remote controls and cell phones in your house are blanketed with germs. You touch them often, and we rarely think about using a disinfectant spray on them. However, we should be careful because they are often placed on contaminated and/or infected surfaces after you use them, because you've failed to wash your hands.
Now that we have a better idea of where most germs are in our house, let's get to cleaning. After all, many of the items we've highlighted here are used daily, and simple cleaning can help prevent you or someone in your house from getting sick.
