The Three O'clock Project has been distributing free meals for children for weeks now, and today, they will be doing the meal distribution again.

One of the Lafayette locations is changing today as well. The three o'clock project is moving one of the sites, the one located at St. Thomas More High School, to the Bayou Church on Kaliste Saloom Road. Officials asking anyone coming to the church to enter on the Kaliste Saloom side, and then you will be exiting by using Settlers Trace Boulevard.

So many people in Acadiana are having a hard time getting food to their tables. Thousands of people have been left without jobs due to layoffs because of the Coronavirus pandemic, and people are being left without enough money to feed their children.

There are several locations throughout Lafayette Parish that will be distributing food today.

The locations are as follows:

  • In Scott, the distribution site is at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church from 1:30-2:30 p.m. The church can be found at 1301 Old Spanish Trail
  • In Carencro, the distribution site is at Pelican Park from 1:30-2:30 p.m. The park can be found at 110 Softball Drive.
  • Jackie Unit of the Boys and Girls Club at 1000 Marie Antoinette Blvd from 9:30-10:30 a.m.
  • Brown Park at 1234 East Pont Des Mouton Road from 10-11:00 a.m.
  • The MLK Recreation Center at 309 Cora Street from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
  • St. Thomas More High School at 450 East Farrel Road from 12-1:00 p.m.

According to officials with Second Harvest Food Bank, when the pandemic started, the percentage of people who were requesting food shot up forty percent, and more than likely the numbers have just continue to grow as more and more people are losing their employment.

With our state moving into Phase One of recovery, people are going back to work, but the future of the economy in our state may continue to struggle.

Ben Broussard, Communications Director with Catholic Charities of Acadiana, says that one of the biggest requests that have come into their group is for food.

You can bring your children with you to pick up the meals, or you can simply drive up and ask for the meals for your kids.

The food is meant for children under the age of 18 who need food.

When you drive up, you will be given seven breakfasts packages and seven lunch packages for each of your children who need food for the week.

Even before the Coronavirus pandemic, statistics show that one out of every five people in America were considered to be food insecure because they couldn't put food on the stable, and that issue has only been exacerbated by the pandemic.

The food distribution is on Tuesdays of each week.

How long will food last?
