What a year we have had. And the fact that we are finally emerging from a year of shutdowns, quarantine, and massive loss of economic development is somewhat encouraging. We still have a long way to go, but at least there is hope. And course, all of that is due to vaccinations for COVID-19 that are now available to just about anyone who wants one. And Louisiana wants to move forward by offering some incentives to those who still might be on the fence about taking the life-saving vaccine.

According to WWL "Louisiana has one of the lowest vaccination rates for adults in the country with only about 35 percent of the eligible population having started or completed the vaccination series." And because of that, officials are saying that a new campaign will begin in June across Louisiana to encourage those who haven't been vaccinated yet.

The “Shot for a Shot” campaign will offer a free alcoholic or non-alcoholic drink from participating businesses to eligible Louisiana citizens who get the COVID-19 vaccination. The Louisiana Office of Alcohol and Tobacco Control tells WWL that the Louisiana Restaurant Association plans to partly reimburse bars and restaurants for the drinks to be given to citizens who can prove they've been fully vaccinated within the last seven days.

No state tax money will be used for the program and the Office of Alcohol and Tobacco Control say that they will be collecting the data from the Restaurant Association from those businesses who are participating. Read more about the program from WWL in New Orleans.
