Philadelphia Endicrinologist Dr. Sergei Jabbour said 15 percent of Louisiana residents have diabetes. What's more is that of the 33,000 people who are diagnosed each year in Louisiana, 95 percent of them have Type 2 Diabetes.

Jabbour said walking has been proven to lower blood sugars and improve diabetes. Walking can also lower the risk of high blood pressure, heart attack and stroke.

Jabbour and Dr. Sheri Colberg, a professor of exercise science at Old Dominion University, have teamed up with Astra Zeneca and the Diabetes Hands Foundation to develop the Everyday Steps initiative.

The Web site offers 12 steps to help motivate everyone to get active to maintain a healthful lifestyle.
