(Duson, Louisiana) - Police Departments get called out for many things, some are serious, and others are just shocking.

If you talk to any man or woman who is or has served their community, they will tell you that there are a handful of calls that they'll never forget, and the Duson Police Dept got one of those calls this week.

In a social media post by the police agency, they announced they were called out to assist Lafayette Animal Aid in apprehending an unusual suspect.  On the loose was not an escaped convict, but rather, something much larger and much faster than any human.

Size and Speed of An Emu

On the loose was an Emu. Yes, the large bird is the second-largest in the world, standing up to 6.2 feet tall and running up to 31 mph.

Emus are the only birds with calf muscles, and perhaps that explains why they can run as fast as you can drive through school zones.

The large bird spotted in Duson was on the loose in yards, and according to the Duson Police Dept., they secured it for Lafayette Animal Aid.

We don't know where the bird came from or who it may belong to, but many years ago, people invested in these birds as it was thought that their eggs would be very valuable.

Job well done by the Duson P.D. for securing this bird before it hurt itself or someone else who may have attempted to capture it.

Here's a look at the "crime of the day" in Duson.

In an update to this story, Lafayette Animal Shelter is now looking for the owner of this large bird. Here's the information they shared on social media.
