Former New Orleans Saints legend and Purdue Boilermaker Drew Brees will be on the sidelines once again, but this time he's not suiting up...he's coaching.

The 13-time Pro Bowler wanted to help the new coach, Ryan Walters, transition into his new role as their former HC Jeff Brohm left the team to take the head coaching job at Louisville.

Drew will be forever indebted to Purdue for the chance they gave him to play Division I football when other universities passed him over. Brees was a star quarterback in high school, but scouts thought he was too short and his arm was not strong enough to be successful at the next level.

Brees had this to say in a press release:

I am extremely excited to work with our team over the next few weeks as we prepare for the Citrus Bowl. I see it not only as an opportunity to coach and mentor this group of young men, but represent all the former Purdue players that care so much about our program. This is also preparation for the future of Purdue Football with new head coach Ryan Walters. I had a great conversation with Coach Walters last night, and love the energy, passion and detail he will bring to our program. The future is bright, and there is no better time to be a Boilermaker.

With the great success that Dion Sanders has had recently, it begs the question if this interim coaching gig will plant a seed for a future coaching career for Drew Brees.

You can watch the Citrus Bowl on January 2, 2023 on ABC.  Kickoff is at 12 noon.
