Dixon Correctional Center Arts and Crafts Show and Sale

The Dixon Correctional Center Arts and Crafts Show and Sale takes place this weekend.

If you've been to the Angola State Prison Rodeo and experienced its arts and crafts, you'll find a similar experience at Dixon Correctional Institute, though on a smaller scale.

According to a post from the Louisiana Department of Corrections, there will be plenty of great inmate-created artwork, jewelry, leathercrafts, woodworking, and furniture.

Gates will open at 9 am on Saturday, May 14, and the general public will be allowed to shop the arts and crafts created by incarcerated persons at Dixon Correctional Institute. The event ends at 3 pm.

Metal art, jewelry, furniture, woodworking, art, paintings, benches, tables, rocking chairs, and desks are just a few of the items that will be for sale.

Only cash will be accepted at the sale, and proceeds will go to help the inmates.

The inmates will be able to use the funds raised in the facility's commissary to purchase needed items, from personal hygiene supplies to clothing to various snack foods and even religious items. Stationary, phone calls, postage stamps, and materials to make more arts and crafts for next year's sale.

Dixon Correctional Center is near Jackson, Louisiana, which is about 25 miles north of Baton Rouge, and about 10 miles east of St. Francisville.
