BATON ROUGE (AP) — Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards has told President Donald Trump that a growing number of coronavirus cases could push the state beyond its capacity to provide health care in seven days.

The state's total case number jumped to 380 Thursday afternoon, up from 280 a day earlier. The death toll stands at 10. Edwards asked Trump for federal help including the possible use of the veterans' hospital in New Orleans to dealt with a possible surge in cases.

The vast majority of people recover from this with only mild or moderate symptoms, but many require hospitalization. It can be lethal in the elderly and people with existing health problems.
