Church Pays Louisiana Woman’s Electric Bill, She Steals $20,000 From Same Church

27-year-old Shareafa Watkins received a blessing from her church, but apparently it wasn't enough to make her happy.  She ended up stealing $20,000 and she almost got away with it.

Oakland Baptist Church in Kenner, La, decided to help Ms. Watkins who attend most Sundays, by paying her electric bill after she was heard saying she wasn't going to have the money.  The church wrote her a check to cover it.

This happened back in 2014.  But last month, the pastor of the church was going through the books and noticed that about $20,000 was missing.  Ms. Watkins had used the account number and routing number on the check to pay her other bills.  It was discovered she used the church's money to pay everything from her phone bill to her cable bill from January of 2015 till just last month.

NOPD found her last week.  She admitted to stealing the money.  She is facing charges for identity theft and illegal transfer of funds.
