Whether you leave your Christmas tree up until after New Year's, or you've already taken it down, there's one thing we all have in common when it comes to undoing all of those holiday decorations. What to do with your tree?

Well, the folks at PickYourChristmasTree.org have a list of places around the state of Louisiana where you can recycle or dispose of that tree. These are the same people who run the PickYourOwn.org website, which is a go-to in my family all year long to find fruits and vegetables.

The website has some good advice about how to prepare your tree to be disposed of or recycled. "Be sure to remove all lights, wire, tinsel, ornaments, nails, stands, other NON-Organic decorative materials and other materials that are not part of the original tree. This includes tree stands also."

Also, remember that there may be last-minute changes to some of the parishes that are offering services, so it's best to check with each one individually before you attempt to get rid of the tree. The list is updated by the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality, so be sure to check it out to see if your community is participating.

Also, once again there are several parishes that are taking part in the amazing Christmas Tree Marsh Restoration Project, which is currently in it's 30th year in Jefferson Parish. About 5,000 trees are collected every year to help mitigate shoreline erosion and rebuild wetlands in Louisiana. And the bonus is, they don't take up landfill space. We are all about helping to keep our Louisiana as beautiful as it can be! If you need more info on the project, check their website, or call (504) 736-6719.
