Bayou Teche Is Getting A Canoe/Kayak Dock

Some grant money via the Federal Highway Administration will be used to create a new dock for the Bayou Teche that will offer a place for people who want to put their canoe or kayak in the water.

The Bayou Teche is part of the National Water Trail System.

This new dock will be near the Duperier Street Bridge on close to a half on acre of property.

In addition to the launch, their will be amenities tied to the project and beautiful landscaping.

When the project is complete is will include the following:

• An elevated pathway to the dock
• A floating dock structure
• Public parking
• A walkway trail from the Duperier St. Bridge
• Lighting
• Kiosk signage about the history of the park
• Paddling trail signage
• Benches

Louisiana's Bayou Teche is a 135 mile waterway that stretches from one part of Acadiana to another.

With this new dock, anyone using a kayak or canoe can stop into this near dock in New Iberia, the others that have also been developed, and in the future, more docks are expected to be added to the entire length of the Bayou Teche.

New Iberia officials say the fuding was secured by Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser and State Senator Fred Mills.
