Beginning June of this year, Aunt Jemima will officially be renamed Pearl Milling Company according to parent company PepsiCo.

Months ago, PepsiCo made the announcement that in an effort to be more culturally sensitive they would be retiring the Aunt Jemima brand.

KATC reports that Aunt Jemima pancake mix and syrup will continue to be sold until June, but the product's traditional labels will not be included on the packaging.

PepsiCo's statement via KATC.com -

"Throughout the effort that led to the new Pearl Milling Company name, Quaker worked with consumers, employees, external cultural and subject-matter experts, and diverse agency partners to gather broad perspectives and ensure the new brand was developed with inclusivity in mind."

So, what's the story with the new The Pearl Milling Company name?

According to CNN.com The Pearl Milling Company was the company that created the "original ready-made pancake mix, according to PepsiCo. It was founded in 1888 by Chris L. Rutt."
