Artists Call For Grammy Boycott

Last night Acadiana was treated to a Fourth Of July performance by The Acadiana Symphony and Grammy winning Chubby Carrier & The Bayou Swamp Band. Chubby will be the last winner of the Grammy for Best Zydeco/ Cajun recording.

The National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences is eliminating the category, along with several others. Inaugural Zydeco/ Cajun Grammy winner, Terrance Simien contributed heavily to the Oscar- nominated soundtrack of the Disney film, "The Pricess And The Frog"

When Chubby dropped by KTDY Thursday afternoon to promote the show, there was very little discussion about it. Neither He, Shelley Lynne or myself were in the mood to dwell on negatives. The on-air interview focused on the upcoming performance.  Some musician charge the cuts are racially motivated since several of the categories are considered "Ethnic".  Paul Simon and Herbie Hancock are among a group of musicians calling for a boycott of CBS, which airs the Grammy's.
