Actress Amy Schumer acknowledged the Lafayette shooting victims by thanking them by name during her speech at the Critics Choice awards.

When Schumer got word about the shooting that took place at the Grand Theater on Johnston Street back on July 23, 2015 she tweeted,

The Hollywood actress also used the opportunity to speak on gun control, teaming up with her second cousin, US Senator Chuck Schumer, asking the government for stricter gun laws.

Six months later she has not forgotten about that tragic day, mentioning the victims who lost their life by name during her Critic's Choice acceptance speech.

Many have expressed gratitude for the fact that Schumer made mention of the victims and the Lafayette community in a moment that could have very well been her own, but others have responded on social media stating that they believe her words made it seem as if she was literally thanking them for dying in order to help push her stance on gun control.

While that may seem to be somewhat of a harsh assumption, what are your thoughts on her statement? Do you think she meant well, or do you believe her words were disrespectful to the victims and their families?

As always, let us know in the comments.
