Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler Opens ‘Janie’s House’ Women’s Shelter [Video]
Steven Tyler is best known for fronting one of rock's most enduring bands, Aerosmith. He's also a bit of a philanthropist. WREG reports, he recently opened "Janie's House'' just outside Memphis. It's a shelter for abused, and neglected girls. The facility is named for the Aerosmith song "Janie's Got a Gun." Tyler wrote it about a young girl taking vengeance on her abusive father. The inspiration for the song came to him while recovering from his own addictions, and some admittedly very bad behavior. He met several victims of multiple forms of abuse, and was quite moved. Tyler donated $500,000 to the project. "Janie's Fund," created by Tyler, has raised four million dollars since 2017. There's already a "Janie's house" in Atlanta. Another is planned for the Las Vegas area.
