The kennels in the cat room at Lafayette Animal Control are full of playful, precocious felines like the little girl you see in the video.

I spent some time there and got to visit with many of those fur-babies. They were all meowing, as if asking to be taken home and played with. I'm a sucker for furry friends, so it was difficult to leave without a new member of the family.

Virginia Lee with Lafayette Animal Control told me that this summer, they have seen an unusual uptick in drop-offs and pick-ups of dogs and cats. It puts a strain on the space and resources.

Speaking as a cat owner, they make wonderful pets if you're looking for an animal to keep you company or to add to your family. They don't require a lot of time, and they are a lot of fun to have around.

When you adopt any animal, including a cat, from Lafayette Animal Control, it is spayed/neutered, has its vaccinations, and is micro-chipped. The cost to adopt a cat is $80. However, they do feature Feline Fridays where the cost is just $60.

Adoption hours at the shelter at 613 W. Pont Des Mouton Road in Lafayette are 1:00 to 4:30 Monday through Friday. You do not have to be a Lafayette resident to adopt.
