Acadiana Man Dies In Sunday Crash

A New Iberia man is dead after a crash early Sunday morning on Louisiana Highway 182 near the Spanish Lakes Boat Launch.

Louisiana State Police Troop I Spokesman Trooper Thomas Gossen says that 40-year-old died as a result of the two-vehicle crash.

Gossen says that the initial information about the crash shows that Begnaud crossed the centerline of the highway, and he drove into the eastbound lanes.

What happened next, according to the preliminary investigation, is that Begnaud's vehicle slammed head-on into a pickup truck.

Officials at the scene say that Begnaud was not wearing a seat belt when this crash happened. The driver of the other vehicle was, and that person was taken to a hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Routine toxicology tests have been taken in connection with this crash.

Gossen says as more information about the investigation into this crash becomes available, they will make that information known to the public.
