This weekend, ESPN reported Sean Payton's contract extension with the New Orleans Saints was voided by the NFL. It was reported as if this were a new development, leading people to suppositions that the matter was more fallout from "Bountygate." That's not necessarily the case. The extension was never approved by the NFL in the first place. The league reportedly objected to language allowing an escape clause if General Manager Mickey Loomis' were to leave the team. These objections were raised more than a year ago.

It was reported that he becomes a Free agent after this season, firing up the rumor mill & fueling speculation as to who may court him. Dallas Cowboys? He has roots there. He's also coached with the New York Giants. They've won 2 Super Bowls under current head coach Tom Coughlin. His NFL coaching career began with the Philadelphia Eagles. He's also coached at San Diego State.

It's still not clear that he will be a free agent in the first place. When a player is suspended, the year of suspension is simply rolled over to the following season. Sean's not a player, and the league hasn't offered any clarification.

"Our office has made no determination on Sean Payton's contract status with the Saints for next year."   - NFL spokesman Greg Aiello

CBS Sports is reporting Saints owner Tom Benson is seriously considering offering his suspended head coach a contract that will make him the league's highest paid coach.

Coach Payton reportedly told Fox's Jay Glazer he "Absolutely" intends to return to the Saints next season. During last night's Saints victory over the Philadelphia Eagles, ESPN's Jon Gruden said, "I don't care what's being reported. The way I know Sean Payton, I think he'll be right back here in New Orleans."   This is just my "Two Cents", but I'm gonna put it out there. I believe Sean Payton will be back........With a vengeance.
