I recently traveled to Memphis to visit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Several co workers and I were attending the "Country Cares" Seminar. While in Memphis, we stayed at the famous Peabody Hotel. Live ducks were placed in the fountain of the Peabody in the early 1930's. Legend has it this was the result of General Manager Frank Schutt and a friend returning from a hunting trip that involved the consumption of a little too much Jack Daniels' whiskey. A few years later, a bellman offered to train the ducks to march, and a daily tradition at the Peabody was born.
Crowds pack the lobby twice a day to watch the march of the Peabody Ducks. I was recently among them.
