Warning About Deer Antler “Chews” For Dogs

In a new veterinary report out of the UK, many veterinarians are recommending that dog owners not give antler 'chews' to their pets.

According to the Dental Vets website, many vets have

experienced a surge in the numbers of fractured teeth from STAGbars and other antler type chews sold for dogs as "natural tooth cleaning".

 

The article itself is filled with several medical terms (and pictures of the damage), but the general message of the report is that veterinarians do not recommend giving the antler-type chews to dogs, or real bone chews, for that matter.
