UL Students To Vote On Fee For Funding Campus Improvements
A few days ago, I made the mistake of driving in the area of the UL Lafayette Campus at about 3:30 pm.
A plan is in the works for major campus upgrades with a focus on reducing automobile traffic. Planned improvements include expanded sidewalks and new bike paths. Three main areas of the campus are being targeted for improvements.
They include the main academic campus, the commons and acquiring the old Our Lady of Lourdes hospital property.
A student fee of $7.50 per credit hour, capped at 15 hours, will be put up for a student vote October 8th & 9th.
Student Government Association president Ashley Mudd reports positive feedback from the student body. No organized effort to oppose the fee hike has been reported.
UL President Joseph Savoie said "We're very proud of the students because they've really stepped up and gotten involved with this project. It really shows the responsibility students feel for our campus."
