Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajun softball team captured both ends of a Sun Belt Conference doubleheader on Saturday, defeating the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders, by winning the first game, 10-0, before taking the second game, 6-3, at Lamson Park.

With the twinbill sweep, the Cajuns ran their current win streak to 11 games.

In the opener, Louisiana struck early, and often, scoring five runs in the bottom half of the opening inning, courtesy of a run-scoring double by first baseman Matte Haack, and a two-run home run by designated hitter Sara Corbello, making it 5-0.

Haack increased the UL lead to 6-0 in the bottom half of the second inning, when she crushed a solo home run, her eighth of the year, and the second of the day for the Cajuns.

Shortstop Nerissa Myers and Brianna Cherry then delivered back-to-back homers in the bottom of the third inning, extending the Louisiana lead to 9-0.

The Cajuns added an insurance run in the bottom of the fourth inning, to end the scoring.

Jordan Wallace (17-6) picked up the win for Louisiana, tossing one-hit, shutout softball, over three innings, before turning things over to Christina Hamilton, while Caitlin McClure (2-12) got credit for the loss for Middle Tennessee.

In the nightcap, the Cajuns struck first again, as Cherry belted a solo home run over the left field fence, giving them a quick 2-0 advantage.

The game stayed that way until the top of the third inning, when the Blue Raiders scored their first run of the day, with an RBI single by catcher Laura Dukes, before centerfielder Nina Dever followed with a two-run homer, giving them a 3-1 lead.

Down 3-1, with the bases loaded, and two outs in the bottom half of the fifth inning, Haack delivered a clutch, three-run double to deep right, scoring Leandra Maly, Natalie Fernandez, and Cherry, giving Louisiana the lead back, 4-3.

The Cajuns scored two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth, with Cherry and catcher Sarah Draheim driving home runs, to make it 6-3.

The Blue Raiders loaded the bases in the top of the seventh, but came away empty-handed, as UL hung on for the win, and the doubleheader sweep.

Jordan Wallace (18-6) recorded the win, pitching four innings of shutout ball, in relief of starter Victoria Brown, while reliever Jordyn Fisherback (3-17) suffered the loss.
