As temperatures creep closer to the 90-degree point, we have a planned power outage to announce for some in Acadiana.

Slemco has announced that on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, there will be a power outage in the Youngsville area from 9 am to 1 pm.

Customers that will be impacted by the outage are those that reside in the Highland Ridge Phase I & II in Youngsville.

Slemco says that the power in that area of the city must be cut off as they will be working on an underground load. Power lines need to be de-energized for crew members to properly complete the work.

The power company has notified those that will be impacted by the outage, and according to Slemco, Southside High School in Youngsville will not be impacted by the planned outage.

However, if you know of anyone who lives in the defined area that you can see below, you may want to offer them a place to stay during the outage. Temperatures are expected to reach near 90 degrees on Wednesday, May 8, 2024.

Now, if you live in an area that will be without power for several hours, you may want to make plans for food that you may have stored in the refrigerator or freezer. Re-locating your food items to another freezer or ice chest may want to be considered to protect what you have purchased.

These are just a few recommendations as Slemco prepares to cut electricity to begin work in Youngsville.

Here's the announcement from the power company, and the map that shows who will be affected by the planned power outage this week.
