Sesame Street is introducing Julia, a Muppet designed to represent children on the Autism spectrum.

Fox News reports that Sesame Street will introduce Julia, a character with autism, in an effort to make children with autism who watch the show feel accepted. Sesame Street says it hopes to promote a better understanding and reduce the stigma often found around these children. We're modeling the way both children and adults can look at autism from a strength-based perspective: finding things that all children share."

Julia will first appear in 'Meet Julia' in April, and also has a storybook, app, and videos. Sesame Street hopes that Julia will help the 1 in 68 children in the U.S. feel represented on the show and also help with bullying of children on the spectrum.
