Louisiana head baseball coach Tony Robichaux said Monday night he hasn't decided on his starting pitcher this Friday against Rice in the first round of the Houston Regional.

But he made one thing clear:  Gunner Leger is not an option.

Speaking on his radio program from Walk-Ons Bistreaux and Bar, Robichaux said he would hold his freshman lefty back because of the workload during the Sun Belt Conference baseball tournament in Troy over the weekend.  Leger threw 92 pitches on Wednesday and then came back with 102 pitches in Sunday's championship game, won by the Cajuns over South Alabama 5-1 in twelve innings.

"We held our freshmen back this year and got them out before they got to the 100 pitch mark so they'd be ready at the end of the season.  We don't want to bring Gunner back too soon after throwing as many pitches as he did in the tournament," Robichaux said.

The Cajuns' skipper, in his 21st season said there were four options he could consider for the first game on Friday.  Freshman Evan Guillory got the start last Friday against UT Arlington, throwing 110 pitches.  Another freshman, Wyatt Marks was the Thursday starter against Troy, but left after throwing just 25 pitches.  He returned on Saturday against Texas State and threw 109 pitches.

Junior Will Bacon made three appearances, throwing 35 pitches on Wednesday, fifteen on Thursday and 86 in a Saturday start.  Senior Greg Milhorn got two wins in the tournament, throwing 73 pitches in Thursday's game against Troy and then 44 pitches in Sunday's championship game.

Robichaux said he would be checking daily for soreness with all four pitchers and would look at the scouting report before making a decision on his game one starter.  He said Leger would be considered for a start on Saturday against either Houston or Houston Baptist.

The third seeded Cajuns meet the second seeded Owls at 2:30 Friday afternoon.  The game will be simulcast on ESPN1420 and 96.5 KPEL-FM.
