Having been raised by a father who was a diehard NY Giants fan, I have no particular love for the Washington Redskins. That being said, I think Wednesday's court decision was the wrong one. Bloomberg.com reports, a Federal judge has upheld a 2014 cancellation of 6 Redskins trademarks by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The Team is not Banned from using the long established name, but they no longer have copyright. This means The Washington football franchise can do nothing about the manufacture, importation or sale of what was previously counterfeit merchandise. It also sets a dangerous precedent. With controversies raging over the Confederate flag, and recent Supreme Court ruling on same sex marriage, when do we simply say "Wait a minute. This has gone too far!" Who's next? Vancouver Canucks? New York Yankees? Ragin' Cajuns? The New Orleans Saints were founded on All Saints Day, a Catholic Holiday. What if some religious fringe group has a problem with that?...
