Norah Jones has released a statement about the death of her estranged father, Ravi Shankar, who died on Dec. 11 at the age of 92.

“My Dad’s music touched millions of people,” the Grammy-winning singer-songwriter said. “He will be greatly missed by me and music lovers everywhere.”

In the past, Jones has been reluctant to speak about her father, who was 59 when she was born. “Although I love my dad very much, I did only spend a fraction of my adolescence around him,” she told The Observer in 2002. “This is probably why I try to downplay our relationship in the press.”

On Tuesday, Dec. 12, Jones posted an additional message about her father via Facebook. “Here are some great clips of my Dad playing the Sitar for anyone who never saw him perform live,” she wrote along with a link to a YouTube playlist. “He’s 51 in the first clip and 92 in the second clip, and an inspiration in both. I love you and miss you, Pops.”

Shankar was labeled “the godfather of world music” by George Harrison, and influenced generations of people with the traditions of Indian music. Upon the news of his passing, stars like Rob Thomas, Slash and Christina Perri commented about the loss via Twitter. “Ravi Shankar gave us light through the vibration of his sound,” Lenny Kravitz wrote. “I was blessed to have been in his presence. My love pours out to the family.”
