Some of us probably know someone that has an unusual pet, like a raccoon or snake or maybe even a nutria. These are legal to own as pets in the state of Louisiana, but a number of other animals are banned as pets and will cost you heavy fines for owning.

Here are just a few of the banned animals in the state of Louisiana:

Black bear
Grizzly bear
Polar bear (where would you even find one of these in Louisiana?!)
Big cats like lions, tigers, jaguars, and leopards.

The full list of banned animals and the penalties for owning them is here. I find it interesting that you can't have any 'non - human primates' as pets. Does that mean you can have a human primate as a pet? Hmm.
