I remember the first time two of my friends told me that they had met their respective boyfriend and girlfriends through an online dating service. I was skeptical, and still bought into the stereotype that online dating is really only for the desperate and those who are "socially awkward." Yes, that's harsh, but I'm being honest here!

Both of those friends ended up having healthy and successful relationships which led to marriage and continue in happy marriages. So I was not at all surprised to learn that relationships begun in cyberspace are 25 percent less likely to end in divorce or separation than those that began through set-ups by friends or chance encounters.

According to the study conducted by psychologists at Chicago University, this success could be due to a higher motivation to find another person interested in a serious relationship on the part of internet daters, as well as  the efforts that websites put in to matching partners.
