The Lafayette Parish School System is considering substantial changes to its policy regarding student cell phones. The current policy prohibits all students from bringing them on school grounds. The Advertiser reports, a proposal will be considered at Wednesday's meeting that will allow high school and middle school students to possess phones on campus. High school students would be allowed to use their phones during lunch, and outside, before and after class.
Middle school students would be allowed to use cell phones only when granted specific permission.
The penalties for violating the policy would remain unchanged. A first offense would bring a five day confiscation, 2nd offense, thirty days, and third offenses will draw a confiscation for the entire school year.
