A recent accident at Lafayette high School has prompted school officials to modify dismissal procedures. A student was hospitalized after being struck by a bus on Sept. 20th. The student is expected to recover fully.

LPSS officials met with bus drivers and administrators to develop new procedures aimed at making  the bus loading area safer.Director of transportation Bill Samec said buses will now load and leave the campus in the afternoon before any students who drive or walk will be allowed to leave.

Principal Patrick Leonard said, "When we dismiss, the students are not allowed to go between the buses. Once the buses start moving, if you are not in the gym by that time, you have to stand on the south side and wait. We have teachers there and monitors there. The major move is that we closed the exit gates for the cars, so even if a kid gets to his car, he can't leave. The buses have to leave first."
