Lafayette Broadcasting Community Mourning Loss of Radio Legend

He was a force to be reckoned with, and when he spoke you knew who this man was. For years, he roamed the halls of this building, and he spent endless hours broadcasting Ragin' Cajun athletics on multiple mediums including KPEL and KTDY.

He was the Voice of the Cajuns. He was a broadcast legend, and now Don Allen has gone into the great beyond.

I remember Don Allen fondly because as a little girl, I would hear his voice on the radio broadcasting different Cajuns games. Before I ever even walked into the studios here at 1749 Bertrand Drive, I knew his voice as so many of us did. Many people have commented about Allen on the Acadiana Broadcast Legends page.

In a statement from the current "Voice of the Cajuns", Jay Walker, had the following to say about Don Allen:

I think all Cajun fans are feeling a loss today. For so many moments in Cajuns' history, he was the man painting the picture. He was passionate, articulate, and, perhaps most importantly, accurate. In the ten years we worked together, I learned so much from him and will be forever grateful for his wisdom and his willingness to share it. 

Jay Walker, who spent a decade as Don's broadcast partner and Don's broadcast partner and current Director of Broadcasting for Ragin' Cajun Sports Properties says Don will be missed by so many.
