We are proud to announce that John "JayCee" Falcon, afternoon host on 99.9 KTDY, a Townsquare Media radio station, has received the Giles Automotive and KLFY TV10 "Acadiana Community Hero" Award.

JayCee was nominated by Lisa Flint for his involvement in the community and his commitment to the American Lung Association.  The results of the voting were announced today on Meet Your Neighbor.

From KLFY TV10's website, an explanation of the award:

One deserving person or non-profit organization will be awarded $3000 from Giles Automotive for their hard work and for giving of themselves to the community.
The deserving person or organization that is selected by the community each month will be announced on KLFY TV10 at the end of each month.
Finalists were chosen from nominations submitted to Giles Nissan and TV10.

When asked what he plans to do with the $3,000 award, JayCee said:

When I was nominated for the award, the main thing that Lisa Flint spoke of in the nomination letter was my work with the American Lung Association.  The staff at Giles and KLFY asked me to spell my name (so they could make out the check), I told them to write it out to "The American Lung Association".  It does my heart good to know that the people of Acadiana support my work with ALA; they voted for me because of my commitment to the cause, so that's where the money should go. - John "JayCee" Falcon, Acadiana Community Hero Award Winner for August, 2015.

JayCee got involved with the American Lung Association after the death of his mother, Alice Joyce Richard Falcon.  She succumbed to an asthma attack in December of 2004, and the family asked, in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to American Lung Association.  That is when the idea of a fundraiser, the annual 'jeep jaunt', was born.

Aline Vitale, local spokesperson for the American Lung Association, said she wasn't surprised that JayCee was nominated.

He does so much for the community as a whole.  Yes, he does a lot for American Lung Association to help us continue our mission, but he is very involved with other fundraisers and community events.  We are very lucky to have him and the whole Falcon clan so committed to the ALA.  I never got to meet Mrs. Joyce but, judging from her children, she must have been an incredible woman. - Aline Vitale, American Lung Association.

The 'jeep jaunt' has raised over $500,000 for the American Lung Association; the 10th annual event is coming up on October 25, 2015.  Registration is still open (to any street-legal Jeep or 4x4), and the trip to Cypress Bayou Casino Hotel will include lunch and door prize ticket for $20 per person.  Tickets are available online.
