This morning on the KTDY morning show, the subject of how Graceland got it's name came up.  Do you know?  It had nothing to do with Elvis.

S. C. Toof, founder of S. C. Toff & Co. owned the property where Graceland sits.  The property was a large area called Graceland Farms.  The grounds were named after Mr. Toff's daughter Grace.  Grace inherited the farm and shortly after she attained the property, she gave her nephews and niece Ruth the property where the house is now.

Dr. Thomas Moore and his wife Ruth built the tan limestone 23 room mansion in 1940.  Since the house was built on Graceland Farms, the name was simplified and the house simply became Graceland.
