Antoine "Fats" Domino is 88 years old today!! He was born February 26th, 1928 in New Orleans' lower 9th ward. He stayed there after achieving success as a performer, and recording artist. Like many Louisiana natives of his generation, Antoine grew up speaking French.

His 1956 hit "Blueberry Hill" reached #2 on the Top 40, and #1 on the R & B chart. "I'm Walkin'', "Valley of Tears", "It's You I Love" , "Whole Lotta Loving", "I Want to Walk You Home", and "Be My Guest" all went top 10.

Fats chose to stay home when Hurricane Katrina struck the gulf coast. His home was severely damaged, and he was rumored to be dead. A Coast Guard helicopter eventually rescued him. Virtually all his possessions were lost, including momentos of his historic career.

Fats Domino is a member of the Rock 'n roll Hall of Fame, Louisiana Music Hall of Fame, and the Delta Music Museum Hall of Fame. He's been awarded the National Medal of the arts, and the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. He's # 25 on Rolling Stone Magazine's Top 100 Artists of All Time. Happy Birthday, Fats!
