We haven't heard from Steve Perry since his acrimonious split with Journey in 1998. He joined the band in 1977. They'd previously released 3 albums that didn't sell, and were under pressure from their record company to offer  more commercially viable music. Their manager, Herbie Herbert heard Steve's demos, and made him the lead singer over their objections.A string of platinum albums, and hit singles followed. He released a solo album, "Street Talk" in 1984. It sounded a lot like a Journey album. That didn't sit well with founder Neal Schon. Steve made the unilateral decision to disband Journey in 1987. He recorded a second solo album that the record company refused to release. That was followed by "For the Love of Strange Medicine" in 1994. Perry reached out to band members and Journey was reunited in 1997. "Trial by Fire" featured the Grammy nominated "When You Love a Woman."  The supporting tour was scrapped when Steve delayed a decision on surgery for a hiking injury. The band decided to hire a new lead singer and move on. He hasn't been heard from since. Steve recently told a Los Angeles radio station he's been working on a new album since last March. No title or release date has been announced.
