It seems Ford Motor Company has a history of transmission issues involving vehicles dropping into gear without warning, and rolling away. The Associated Press reports Ford is recalling 550,000 vehicles because of a shifter issue. The recall involves 2013 through 2016 Fusion and Escape models. There's a bushing that can fall off, allowing the vehicle to remain in gear when the driver thinks they've put it in park. This could result in the vehicle "going runaway." Ford says owners will be notified by the end of July, and the repairs will be performed at no charge. Operators are recommended to use the parking brake in the meantime.
