Did you happen to hear a strange series of distant thuds earlier this week? That was the sound of a billion jaws dropping once the Chevrolet-FNR was revealed at the Shanghai Motor Show. This car -- "car" seems like an inadequate term for this creation, but we'll stick with it until the aliens who designed it tell us otherwise -- is still just in concept mode, but holy crap, what a glorious, gorgeous concept it is.

Driverless cars are the future, so they say, and after one look at this ride, we'd have to agree. According to GM, "The Chevrolet-FNR boasts a futuristic capsule design. It has crystal laser headlights and taillights, dragonfly dual swing doors, magnetic hubless wheel electric motors and a wireless auto-charge system." Crystal-laser lighting. Dragonfly doors. Whatever a "hubless" wheel is. It even sounds like the future.

We don't really know too much about the FNR yet, but along with the self-driving option (you can also drive it manually if you must, you caveman), its interior seats swivel 180 degrees, so you can entertain guests as you travel or do whatever else it is that drivers do in a driverless car.

Sadly, if and when the final product does come out, it almost certainly won't look quite like this. Concept cars never do, which is a shame, because this is probably the most beautiful thing we've seen since that that driverless Mercedes F 015 -- also a concept that looks like the future. But this FNR looks more like the future. Is that even possible? It's a brave new world, friends.
