Cajun Baseball Signees Leger & Marks Named High School All-Americans

The 2014 Louisville Slugger high school All-American team consisted of two players Cajun fans will see in action next season. Pitcher/1B Gunner Leger of Barbe and STM pitcher Wyatt Marks were each recognized as All-Americans..

Baseball American released the entire list of 2014 high school All-Americans earlier today.

Marks (6’3, 205) was named to the first-team. The All-State and All-District right hander is physically imposing on the mound, helping the Cougars capture a state championship this season.

“Marks has a physically imposing build with great athleticism,” Ragin’ Cajun head coach Tony Robichaux said back on signing day. “We feel like he has a very high ceiling with a fastball that is in the low 90s. He competes at high level and can make a big statement for us.”

Leger (6’3, 205) earned second-team honors as a multi-position player (pitcher, first baseman). The four-year letterman helped the Bucs capture the 2012 state championship.

“Gunner is a very physical left-handed pitcher with room to grow and fill out,” said Robichaux on signing day. “He comes from a prestigious program and is a great competitor that is accustomed to winning. He has three good pitches and is also a skilled defender at first and can swing the stick at the plate.”

Every great pitcher has chemistry with their catcher. Both Marks and Leger were joined on the All-American team by their catchers. Barbe catcher Bryce Jordan earned first-team honors.

STM catcher Chase Vallot was a first-teamer and also received national player of the year honors.
