The New Orleans Saints are reportedly about to offer the most lucrative contract in NFL history to their franchise quarterback, Drew Brees.

Mike Triplett of the Times Picayune says he'll be "stunned" if the deal falls apart now, with the deadline less than a week away. Over the past six seasons, Brees has completed more passes for more yards, touchdowns, and a higher completion percentage than any other quarterback playing during that time. He's led the Saints to four playoff appearances, three division titles, two trips to the NFC Championship game, and a Superbowl Championship. He was named MVP of Superbowl XLIV.  Brees holds single season records

for passing yards, 300 yard passing games in a season, completions in a season, and completion percentage. He's one of only three players to pass for 5,000 yards in a season, and the only player who's done it twice. Media speculation has been rampant about the delay in getting a long -term deal in place.
