All About April

Okay, so it's April Fool's Day and you've already most likely encountered a few pranks around your workplace, school or maybe at home.  We certainly have encountered a few here at KTDY.  But the month of April is about so much more, no foolin.'

Many believe the name "April" is derived from Aphrodite, the ancient Goddess of Love.  Others believe it comes from the Latin verb asperire, meaning "to open." This could refer to spring blossoms.  You know, "April showers bring May flowers."

The April birthstone is a diamond and the April flower is a sweet pea or daisy.

April 1st is of course April Fools Day, a day to fool others.  It's referred to as All Fools Day in Poor Richard's Almanac circa 1760. It's also National Fun Day and the beginning of Laugh at Work Week and National Humor Month.  A time to play those clever fun pranks on friends, family and co-workers.  But it's important to remember that your pranks are only clever and fun if your victims laugh too.

• St. Stupid's Day in San Francisco, featuring the annual St. Stupid's Day Parade.
• Boomer Bonus Day, a day for everyone over 50 (that includes me) to celebrate since Baby Boomers don't usually like to celebrate their birthdays.  This holiday creates a non-threatening celebration.
