Did you know that right here in Acadiana, we have the oldest school west of the Mississippi River in the United States? The Academy of the Sacred Heart in Grand Coteau in St. Landry Parish is the only all-girls school in Acadiana and it opened it’s doors on October 5, 1821. Yesterday, they celebrated their 199th birthday. WOW!

Of course the students and faculty had a big celebration. According to KATC, they were encouraged to dress as the founders of the school. Some of the photos on their Facebook page show many involved in the festivities. Some staff members and students dressed as nuns.

At the Academy of Sacred Heart, their mission is to guide young women spiritually, socially, and academically. They’re located on a historic 255-acre campus that is simply stunning.

Happy Birthday, Academy of the Sacred Heart!
